Bioavailability: The Realized Value

Nature rarely provides nutrients in isolation. True vitality is found in Chemical Pairing —
the way a plant’s minerals, vitamins, and fibers are woven together.
At Vita Equissima, we believe that nutrition is most potent when it is available in its original form.

Every allocation is accompanied by a Eurofins Certificate of Provenance and a complete nutritional analysis.
You will always know exactly what you're feeding and most important; what part of that nutrition is actually bioavailable to your horse.

While generic "Crude Protein" metrics provide a vague estimation of value, Vita Equissima utilizes INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research) —the most rigorous equine-specific calculation system in the world, for all biological assessments.

Our laboratory partner, Eurofins Galys, applies equine-specific equations to every batch. We do not use "estimated" values. We measure the MADC (Matières Azotées Digestibles par le Cheval)—the specific coefficient of realized protein uptake as defined by the world’s leading equine scientists.

By using the INRA MADC system we distinguish between the protein that is physically present in the feed VS the protein that is actually biologically accessible by the horse’s body. It doesn't just look at how much protein is in the hay, but at how much is unlocked from the fiber.
The tannins from the Sainfoin protect the protein as it passes through the stomach, ensuring that the MADC actually makes it to the small intestine for absorption.

Every batch is subjected to Van Soest fiber fractionation to ensure the structural integrity of the hindgut microbiome is maintained.

Our low-pressure harvesting and natural curing ensures that our ADL (Lignin) remains at a structural minimum, preventing the 'Heat-Locking' effect that renders industrial forage nutritionally inert."

The Eurofins report showcases a nutritional powerhouse:

  • Crude Protein (MAT):
    147 g/kg - High-density nitrogen for muscle synthesis.

  • Digestible Protein (MADC):
83 g/kg — The "bioavailable" portion actually absorbed by the athlete.

  • Energy Density (UFC):
    0.60 U.F./kg — Steady, non-heating fuel for performance.

  • Biological Efficiency (dMO) :
56% — Ratio of protein uptake per kg consumed.

  • Mineral Complexity (Ash) :
92 g/kg — Rich in essential salts for skeletal strength.

We utilize Sainfoin’s natural tannins to "unlock" the protein in our hay, ensuring that the nutrition reaches the muscle, not the waste.
